Game 5: Pre-Game Notes

4:30 PM — Coming off his best game of the season, DL Justin Fumando is sticking with the new team motto instead of focusing on the momentum that carries over both from his individual performance and the team’s first win.

“We’ve got a team motto right now; every week is a new season, and we’re just trying to get to 1-0 this week,” he said.

“That’s our goal, and that’s what we set out to do when Coach Miller took over the defense. Momentum or not, our goal is to get to 1-0.”

Fumando says the defense was simplified, but in a good way, when Miller took over.

“We go with the old ‘keep it simple, stupid,'” he told me.

“We simplified the defense so much that there were no mental mistakes. It allowed us to go around and play real physical.”

As for Oderick Turner, this is his first game back after missing the last two, and he’s excited to get back out there after listening to the team’s first win on the radio.

“I feel great,” said Turner, who missed action due to a shoulder issue.

“I came back and practiced, and it feels like nothing’s holding me back anymore. I don’t like to sit out for anything, so it was tough to sit out for two weeks.”

4:00 PM — Not a whole lot going on here at Sun National Bank Center about three hours before game time.

WR Oderick Turner is back in the lineup, and WR Najah Pruden is out with an injury. Also inactive are Stephon Hickson and Charles Graves.

Stay tuned for pre-game comments from Turner and DL Justin Fumando as well…
